What can be built from this foundation? Displays and control positions, enclosures, sensor adapters and custom electronics can each be developed and fabricated. Number Five provides published sources and experience and invites collaboration. Boat owners and fabricators agree the specific job, variant and installation with each other.
The shared foundation is already accessible.
Downloads collect coherent source snapshots for Android, Pi services, sonar, custom electronics and enclosures. Package descriptions identify scope and licence; existing connection and test data belong to their respective revision. Current device captures show the controls, while historical CAD images show the labelled design.
Start with one component: a mount, sensor adapter, control knob or customised display installation. The shared interface connects it to other services.
Plan backwards from the helm you want.
Display size, viewing angle, flush mounting or a bracket, and extra controls determine space requirements. Connectors, cable bends, power and mounting also need room behind the panel. Decide which parts you want to reach or replace later.
The native interface can be shaped for the installation position and task. A second control position accesses shared services. A new display model needs a suitable device profile and a check of its actual controls.
Construction follows your priorities.
Replaceable modules, traceable wiring and accessible screw connections help with your own repairs. A fabricated and populated board can suit a compact custom installation. Both approaches can use the same services and control devices.
Enclosure design includes external connections, strain relief, mounting, lid access and internal cable routing. Check the published variant against the actual purchased components and installation location. The corresponding reports distinguish digital checks and physical experience.
These details turn an idea into an installation.
A practical enquiry can start with photographs and existing model information. Design and fabrication then need confirmed dimensions and the chosen variant. Separate material, fabrication, installation and shipping in a quote; identify unknown labour as unknown.
- Boat and installation location, existing devices, desired functions and control positions.
- Available space, cut-outs, mounting surface, connectors, cable routes and power.
- Source package and revision, exact components, chosen construction and the work each party will undertake.
- Who undertakes assembly, functional checks and future maintenance, and how changes return to the sources.
Open sources leave room for your business.
Printing, fabricating and populating boards, building wiring harnesses or fitting out a custom cockpit: these services can grow from the shared foundation. I welcome people who enable local sourcing and fabrication or want to put installation ideas into practice.
