PROVENANCE, RIGHTS, DEVELOPMENT STATE
On good foundations.
Number Five connects existing open projects with our own development. Here we identify the foundations and the actual scope of what we show.
Sources rather than blanket promises
Result descriptions refer to retained source and test records. Implemented, lab-tested, device-tested and tested aboard are different states. Completed on-water testing of the whole system is not claimed.
- Marine OS lab & recovery
- HELM delivery records
- Audio / Spotify / DSP
- Lumina controls & display integration
- MAP physical-device checks
- Signal K route integration
- Chart conversion boundaries
- Physical sonar trial
- Enclosures & electrical checks
The open foundations
Current device images
The new image sequences were captured directly on the physical Luminas on 1 November: HELM 206, MAP 110 and HOME 31. Audio sound values were additionally checked against the real Pi gateway and CamillaDSP. Captions distinguish NOAA charts, real sonar echoes and simulated boat-data headers. Earlier test images appear separately in the development history.

Further context
Other open projects also develop modern interfaces. KIP 3.0 explicitly describes its touch-first direction. Home Assistant demonstrations connect concrete applications with visible development, an editorial reference for this story.
Video devices, versions and data sources
What you may reuse
New original software is offered under GPLv3, original hardware designs under CERN-OHL-S v2, and original documentation and images under CC BY-SA 4.0. Existing licences—including MIT, MPL and GPLv2—remain authoritative for their respective files. Each source package identifies them.
Charts, images and third-party technology
Historical chart studies use NOAA Boston test data. Newer MAP workspaces are native device captures; crops excluding third-party chart pixels are explicitly labelled. Public image permission for the current o-charts-derived South Africa chart remains unresolved. Current navigation captures therefore use the NOAA Boston test package in the installed app; South Africa chart pixels are not part of this publication. Experimental rendering is not an official navigation source. Our converters do not grant additional rights to third-party charts, keys, OEM software or trademarks. Lighthouse, Navionics, Spotify and other names refer to their respective products; no partnership is claimed.

What the first source release contains
The website and the components individually listed on the download page. The current public release is not a complete image ready for immediate installation on every boat. Package manifests identify included files and remaining external dependencies.
